Staging Area

Note: Starting in September 2024, RelativityOne will be streamlining its staging boundaries to bolster platform security and accelerate the delivery of innovation to your environment. With this change, you will no longer be able to write to or access data outside of the four defined Staging Area folders listed in this section. Additionally, the FTA, Temp, Export, and dtSearch folders will be deprecated and no longer accessible at that time. It is strongly recommended that you begin using the ProcessingSource, StructuredData, and ARM folders as soon as possible. Also by September 1, 2024, be sure to transfer to an appropriate folder any data you would like to retain access to that is currently housed outside of the four designated Staging Area folders. After that date, the folders and data will not be accessible. For more information, see the Staging FAQ article in Community.

The Staging Area is a storage area where you can upload, manipulate, and organize your data before processing and importing it into RelativityOne. This area is separate from where your workspace data and RelativtyOne system data resides. The volume size of the Staging Area is based on your current RelativityOne subscription. It is used for:

  • Preparing client data (upload, manage, organize) prior to importing data into RelativityOne.
  • Storing raw client data prior to processing into a Repository or Review Workspace.
  • Exporting client productions for opposing counsel, saved searches, folders and sub-folders.
  • Temporarily storing ARM archives for restoration into RelativityOne,

See RelativityOne data management for more information regarding our current data tiers.

Staging Area folders

Within each tenant or client domain storage area, the Staging Area consists of the four folders listed below. You are only able to write to and access data within these four designated Staging Area folders:

Note: You are able to create subfolders within these four Staging Area folders, but you cannot create folders at the same level as them.

  • ARM—a folder for archiving workspaces and for staging restores via the ARM application.
  • ProcessingSource—a folder for storing files you want to process into your RelativityOne workspace. There will be a dedicated job folder for each of the jobs. For example, \ProcessingSource\[JobFolderName].
  • StructuredData—a folder for importing and exporting workspace data using Import/Export  and Integration Points. Refer to  Import/Export and Integration Points documentation for more information.

Note: Relativity is deprecating the existing Export folder in September 2024. It is being replaced by the StructuredData folder starting in May 2024. Begin using the StructuredData folder immediately for importing and exporting data via Import/Export and Integration Points. The StructuredData folder is included in your Staging Area threshold and is calculated and billed the same as the existing Staging Area folders (ProcessingSource, ARM, and TenantVM). The Export folder will be completely removed in September 2024 and will no longer be accessible or billable.

  • TenantVM—a folder to temporarily store Utility Server virtual machine (UVM) workflows. Refer to Utility Server documentation for more information.

Billable

The Staging Area is billable data storage included in your subscription. It’s calculated based on the highest consumption peak during a given month. The amount of data storage size and storage limits are based on your contract. Please contact your CSM or Sales Account Manager for more information on your contract. Also see RelativityOne data management for more information.

Best Practices

  • Staging Explorer is Relativity’s recommended product for all data access, manipulation, uploads and downloads to and from the Staging Area.
  • Use Staging Reports via the Management Console to manage, analyze, and understand your Staging Area data, folders, volume size, and cost.
