Key definitions for standard workspaces with aiR
- aiR Unit—a single data element within a Relativity standard workspace that is processed by aiR functionality (for example, in some aiR products this could be the extracted text for a single document record on the document object table). aiR Units have limits defined by each aiR product.
- aiR Unit Analysis—each processing of an aiR Unit by aiR functionality (such as, running aiR for Review Relevance Analysis and receiving results on an aiR Unit).
- Insight (aiR for Review–Custom Analyses only)—a single field result on a single document. A Custom Analyses project can define multiple insight fields to run against each document, so one document produces as many outputs as there are insight fields configured.
- Successful insight (aiR for Review-Custom Analyses only)—an insight that does not receive an aiR System error.
For more details, see aiR Units, Thresholds, and Included Products on the Community. You must have valid Relativity Community credentials to access that content.
How aiR Units are consumed differs by product
aiR for Review (Relevance, Relevance & Key Documents, Issues, Confidential Business Information) and aiR for Privilege each run one model call per document and produce many results from that single call, so they consume one aiR Unit per document.
aiR for Review (Custom Analyses) works differently. It runs a separate aiR system model call for each user-defined insight, so one document produces as many outputs as there are insight fields. Because of this one-to-many relationship, Custom Analyses is metered by insight rather than by document, and consumes one aiR Unit per five successful insights.

How aiR Unit Analyses are counted
Each aiR product's functionality determines what counts as a successful aiR Unit Analysis.
How aiR for Review counts each aiR Unit Analysis
An aiR Unit Analysis will be counted each time a result (which typically include an aiR Score, aiR Prediction, aiR Rationale, and aiR Consideration) is returned for each aiR Unit submitted by a user for analysis within the product. Analysis results that contain an error or an analysis that fails to return a result will not be counted as an aiR Unit Analysis.
For clarity, an aiR Unit can be analyzed more than once, resulting in multiple aiR Unit Analyses.
Document summaries and topics do not impact aiR Units
In aiR for Review, generated summaries and topics for each document are available on the Summaries tab of the project dashboard. They are provided as a complimentary addition to the analysis results, and they do not affect the number of aiR Units used. Summaries and topics cannot be generated without running one of the analysis types.
In rare cases, there may be an error generating the document's topic or summary. As long as the chosen analysis succeeded, such as Relevance or Issues, these are not considered errored documents. You can re-run the document to try for better results, but the document will be charged normally.
How aiR for Privilege counts each aiR Unit Analysis
An aiR Unit Analysis will be counted for each aiR Unit included in the aiR for Privilege Project when the Prepare Project Privilege Pipeline step completes successfully.
For clarity, an aiR Unit can be analyzed more than once, resulting in multiple aiR Unit Analyses.
For example:
| # Documents | # Insights | Errored insights | Successful insights | aiR Units charged |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100,000 | 4 | 0 | 400,000 | 80,000 |
| 100,000 | 4 | 200 | 399,00 | 79,960 |
