Transcripts in Relativity

Using both Transcripts applications, you can annotate transcripts, generate summaries, and create reports to support your workflows. We support a range of transcript file types, and the exact experience may vary depending on the file type you’re working with.

Today, the transcripts experience in Relativity is supported by two applications: Relativity.Transcripts and Transcripts application. Their capabilities partially overlap, and some features are available only in one application or the other. The two applications are now installed together to ensure access to the full feature suite.

Relativity also offers the AV Transcription application which analyzes audio and video files, then transcribes the spoken words into a text field. The functionality of this application differs compared to Relativity.Transcripts and the Transcripts application. To learn more, see AV transcription.

Relativity.Transcripts

Using the new Relativity.Transcripts application, you can import transcripts synced to multiple .mp4 video files. Relativity.Transcripts uses Import/Export to import MDB transcript files. To learn more, see Importing transcript MDB data for Processing via Import/Export. The transcripts can then be linked to exhibits and you can apply designations to highlight important testimony.

You can also create summary of a transcript in the Native Viewer or on the Case Home tab using Generative AI to quickly find relevant information for your case. To learn more, see Transcript Summary. Once a transcript has been summarized, you can use citation hyperlinks to quickly find key pieces of information in the transcript.

Transcripts application

For other transcript file formats, you can use the legacy Transcripts application. This application gives users the ability to upload, review, code, and annotate transcript files in Relativity. You can also generate transcript summaries similar to the newer Relativity.Transcripts application.

Before you begin

There are several things to consider before using the Transcript applications.

Installation

The Relativity.Transcripts and Transcripts application are now installed together. The latest version of these applications can be found in the Application Library and is part of the upgrade process. See Installing applications.

Relativity.Transcripts

The following applications should be installed in a workspace before you begin using Relativity.Transcripts:

  • Relativity.Transcripts
  • Import/Export
  • Processing
  • Hydro Review Interface
We recommend installing the aiR for Case Strategy application to maximize the functionality of Relativity.Transcripts.

Transcripts billing and usage

A workspace fee is charged when you run the first successful Fact Chronology job using aiR for Case Strategy or Transcript Summary job. To learn more about Transcript Summary, see Transcript Summary. You receive a quota of documents, and after exceeding that quota, billing transitions to a per-document rate. The workspace fee also provides 150 GB of .mp4 deposition video hosting and unlimited witness summaries and deposition outlines. Any video storage beyond the 150 GB is charged at your contractual Review rate.
