Microsoft Copilot

This topic describes how to set up and use Microsoft Copilot with the Relativity plugin.

Prerequisites

Before you can use the Relativity plugin in Microsoft Copilot, confirm that you have the following:

A Microsoft Copilot license.
The Relativity plugin enabled for your account by your IT administrator.
You must be a System Administrator in the Relativity aiR instance.

Setting up Microsoft Copilot Chat

Most AI clients manage connectors at the organization level. Your AI platform administrator may need to add the Relativity connector first. If the Relativity connector/plugin is not available to you or does not appear under Sources, request it from your administrator and ask them to enable it for your account or user group.

Follow these steps to connect the Relativity plugin to your Relativity aiR instance:

Open the Microsoft Copilot app at m365.cloud.microsoft or via microsoft365.com. You can also open it from Microsoft Teams or any other Microsoft 365 application by selecting the Copilot icon.
Select the Settings icon in the top right corner, then select Sources.
Under Sources, find Relativity and confirm it shows as connected. If it shows as disconnected, click Connect.
When prompted, enter your Relativity aiR tenant hostname. To find it, open a browser, sign in to Relativity aiR, and look at the first part of the web address. For example, if your URL is https://kcura.relativity.one/Relativity, enter kcura. The .relativity.one suffix is already filled in.
Select Continue. You are redirected to the Relativity aiR sign-in page. Authenticate with your Relativity aiR credentials.
After a successful sign-in, you are redirected back to Microsoft Copilot and the plugin is ready to use.

Work IQ must be active. The Relativity plugin only works in Work IQ mode. Look for the Work IQ button in the top left of Copilot Chat and select it before sending a prompt. If you do not see it or it cannot be selected, contact your IT administrator.

To verify the connection is working, send the following prompt: Am I connected to Relativity aiR? Which instance?

Setting up Microsoft Copilot Cowork

Copilot Cowork is Microsoft's agentic experience for delegating long-running, multi-step work. You can use the Relativity plugin within Cowork to perform Relativity aiR administration tasks through natural language.

Your IT administrator must enable the Relativity plugin for your Copilot account before these steps will work.

Connecting the plugin

In Microsoft Copilot, select Cowork at the top, then select Customize in the left navigation panel.
Search for Relativity, select Install, and toggle it on.
When prompted, enter your Relativity aiR tenant hostname. To find it, open a browser, sign in to Relativity aiR, and look at the first part of the web address. For example, if your URL is https://kcura.relativity.one/Relativity, enter kcura. The .relativity.one suffix is already filled in.
Select Continue. You are redirected to the Relativity aiR sign-in page. Authenticate with your Relativity aiR credentials.
After a successful sign-in, the plugin is connected and ready to use.

To verify the connection is working, send the following prompt: Am I connected to Relativity aiR? Which instance?

Available capabilities by client

Read tools retrieve information from Relativity aiR without making any changes: listing workspaces, users, groups, matters, and usage data. They are safe to run at any time.

Write tools create, edit, or delete objects in Relativity aiR. These actions are permanent and are attributed to your identity in Relativity Audit.

Elicitation support

The MCP server supports elicitation for certain tool calls, which prompts you for confirmation or additional input before executing create, edit, or delete operations. Elicitation support varies by client; in clients that do not support elicitation, tools will execute immediately without a confirmation prompt.

Elicitation support is a third-party client dependency and is subject to change. Check your client's documentation for the most current status.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an M365 administrator to set this up?
No. You only need your IT administrator to enable the Relativity plugin for your account. Once enabled, you connect the plugin yourself through Copilot Chat Settings | Sources or through Cowork's Customize menu. No M365 admin rights are required for the connection steps.

Why can't I see the Relativity plugin in Sources?
The plugin must be enabled for your account by your IT administrator. If you do not see it under Settings | Sources in Copilot Chat, ask your administrator to verify that the plugin has been assigned to your account.

What happens when I use an elicitation-enabled tool in Microsoft Copilot Chat?
Tools execute immediately without a confirmation prompt, since Microsoft Copilot Chat does not currently support elicitation. If you need the confirmation step, use Copilot Cowork. Elicitation support is determined by the client vendor and is subject to change.

Can I ask Copilot Chat/Cowork what it can do with Relativity aiR?
Yes. Copilot Chat/Cowork has visibility into all available MCP server tools. Send a prompt such as What Relativity tools do you have access to? and the Copilot Chat/Cowork will respond with the actions available to it.
